Discover Briançon and the mythical passes of the Alps
Fortified by Vauban, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and culminating at more than 1300 meters above sea level, Briançon is considered the highest city in Europe. The city has an exceptional heritage and an exceptional location that you will not fail to discover during your stay in the Hautes-Alpes. Take even more height by going on the winding roads of some of the most beautiful road passes in Europe, the Galibier and Lautaret, and, closer, the passes of Izoard and Granon. These exceptional places offer you panoramas that are just as much.
The Izoard pass
It is one of the most beautiful road passes of the Hexagon. One of the most difficult to climb too. Mythical passage of the Tour de France cyclist, the Izoard pass takes you to more than 2300 meters of altitude, with a passage in an absolutely lunar scenery. The summit is less than 20 km from your charming hotel in Briançon.
The challenge of Granon
Less famous than its neighbors the Galibier passes and the Izoard pass, the Granon pass is well known to sportsmen. Culminating at 2400 meters of altitude, it is the theater, every year of the Défi du Granon. Every year, on August 15, for more than 40 years, hundreds have been trying to reach the summit on foot or by bike.
